Message from the President
New Mexico is our home.
We are proud that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) now serves more than 600,000 members. During the past year, our membership grew significantly, through enrollment on the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange and our purchase of Lovelace Health Plan membership.
Our more than 1,400 employees know our members as their friends, family and neighbors because we live and work here in New Mexico. From Farmington to Roswell, BCBSNM has employees who call New Mexico their home. We bring those local values to our jobs each day and give back to our communities. Last year, our employees donated thousands of personal volunteer hours to a wide range of community organizations. I appreciate what many of our employees do outside of their jobs in volunteering in their communities. We are New Mexicans helping fellow New Mexicans.
- Employees volunteered nearly 7,000 personal hours in 2014 doing hands-on projects with our nonprofit partners, and hundreds more hours organizing drives and raising awareness in other ways for important community causes
- Senior leaders volunteered and served in leadership roles for 16 civic and community organizations, boards and committees
- BCBSNM sponsored 68 charitable and non-charitable events in New Mexico
- More than $1.1 million in total giving
- More than 4,900 immunizations and health screenings administered through our Care Van®
We are proud of the positive impact BCBSNM has had on New Mexico. We give back to the community by supporting programs such as Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® partners like Abrazos Family Support Services in Bernalillo, AVANCE in Las Cruces, the National Indian Youth Leadership Project in Gallup and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico. Our impact can be seen in our partnerships with organizations such as the American Heart Association®, working to reduce cardiovascular disease and stroke, New Mexico Appleseed and their focus on childhood hunger, St. Martin’s Hospitality Center and their mission to eliminate homelessness, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation, working to create a legacy for future Hispanic generations.
Giving back to our state is one of the corporate values that guides our company. It is at the heart of all we do as a business. As a good corporate citizen, BCBSNM works hard to improve the health and wellness of our members and fellow citizens. We collaborate with and invest in organizations with the shared mission of enriching the lives and health of the communities we serve. I invite you to read this report and learn how Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico is making a positive impact on our communities.
As I look ahead, I am excited about our future and the contributions we will make across this great state of New Mexico.
President, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico
